Today’s post is written by one of Adoption Advocates very own birth mothers. She shares her story of adoption, grief, and resolution. It’s such a beautiful story of healing and taking yet another step in the journey of adoption.

“Finally”

Still holding your smell, and formula drops
It’s never been washed or dried
I put something special away today
That for years has been by my side

I’ve attempted to put it away before
And I failed on every try
I couldn’t have imagined not having it close
For my tears it has also dried

It may seem like such a small thing
And some won’t understand
I just needed this cloth close to my heart
It made me feel closer to my sweet Little Man

What was the healing effect on my heart
Why would I put it away
It was just a few little words in a sweet little voice
“I love you all the time, every day”

Still holding your smell, and formula drops
It’s never been washed or dried
I put something away today
That for years has been by my side

I’ve attempted to put it away before
And I failed on every try
I couldn’t have imagined not having it close
