Services For Women

At Adoption Advocates we have a great deal of respect for birthparents.  We recognize what a tough time this can befor you. We know you want the best for your child, and we want what’s best for both of you. Care and services that may be provided by the Agency may include:
 
• Counseling (individual, group and/or family sessions) before and after you place your child

• You can select the family you want to parent your child

• You can meet the family and establish a relationship so you know how your child will be raised

• You can participate in a post-placement plan with the adoptive parents that meets your needs and desires

• You can choose to give the gift of life…and have the decision supported and respected by the adoptive family

• Financial assistance including living and medical expenses

• You can rest assured your child will know he/she was placed for adoption through an act of loveFollow-up services after relinquishment

Each individual case is considered on a case-by-case basis.

We know you are a responsible and caring person.  Making an adoption plan for your child is a very loving and important decision.  As a parent, you are in charge of your decision, and we are here to do whatever we can to help you. 

Birthparents at AAI have rights whether you choose to exercise them or not.  We support birthparents’ rights strongly and you can count on us to observe them.

*You have the right to privacy.  Adoption Advocates will not provide information about you or your adoption plan to anyone outside the agency without your consent.

*You have the right to explore all of your options and to make your own decision.

*You have the right to help select your child’s new family.  All of AAI’s waiting families have been carefully studied and approved by licensed social workers.

*You have the right to request contact with the adoptive family you select during your pregnancy.  You may also request a closed adoption with no contact, if you prefer.

*You have the right to receive accurate general background information about you child’s new family.

*You have the right to change your mind about the adoption by informing the agency immediately and giving the adoptive family an honest explanation anytime prior to signing the relinquishment papers.

*You have the right to consult with an attorney that you choose and have that attorney advise you regarding the relinquishment of parental rights.

*You have the right to counseling before and after the adoption.

*You have the right to good medical care.  We also offer you the option of seeing a doctor or midwife, whichever you prefer.

*You have the right to name your child on the original birth certificate.

*You have the right to see and spend time with your child after birth.

*You have the right to hand your child to his or her new parents at placement.

*You have the right to receive progress reports and baby pictures for up to six months after placement.

*You have the right to written notification from the agency of developing genetic conditions, terminal illness or the death of your child if the agency receives such information.

*You have the right to enlist with an adoption registry or likewise seek a reunion with your child when he or she reaches adulthood.
