PRN Adoption Specialist (Spanish)

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (preferred) or a human services field required (e.g. Psychology, Sociology, etc.)
  • Two-year’s social work experience
  • At least twenty-one years of age
  • Possess adequately insured means of transportation and a safe driving record.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Willing to submit to a background check, drug and TB test

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive intake calls and emails and respond in a timely manner.
  • Follow up routinely with expectant parent intakes.
  • Carry out individual case management and counseling with expectant parents to help them prepare for adoption-related issues, i.e., grief, exploration of unresolved personal issues that may affect adoption decisions, options available other than adoption, life planning, parenting, etc. Refer clients to outside community resources as needed
  • Facilitate a match between expectant and adoptive parents, arrange the first phone call and meeting, and complete case assessments.
  • Mediate initial meetings and post-placement meetings between adoptive parents and expectant parents as needed.
  • Upload all documents and review all case files on a periodic basis to ensure that all necessary documentation follows licensing standards.
  • Maintain all communication with clients in the agency database.
  • Provide support services to expectant parents, including maternity-related transportation and escort of local clients to health care appointments.
  • Assistance in obtaining Medicaid or insurance for prenatal care.
  • Attend virtual staff meetings; report any needs or issues on potential and current caseload
  • Prepare and oversee relinquishments and notarize legal documentation.
  • Build new/nurture existing relationships with hospital social workers & community partners.
  • Represent AAI in marketing meetings with clinics, doctor’s offices, and social service agencies and at conferences and community events.
  • Assist with arranging birth parent panels for Adoptive Parent Training Seminars.
  • Develop new resources for birth and adoptive parent counseling and support.
  • Arrange birth parent support group events for birth parents that have placed.
  • Obtain 20 clock hours of training per calendar year.
  • Willing and able to travel throughout Texas to visit clients and/or complete relinquishments with short notice.
  • Assure state and local regulations are met, and adoptions are conducted safely, ethically, and highly professionally. Work under the general direction of the Executive Director, performing both routine and complex duties; resolve conflicts; use discretion and independent thinking to address unique client needs and legal requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (e.g. lifting, carrying, climbing, walking, etc.)

Office environment; 50% of time spent on computer and phone devices with hand/finger manipulation; 25% walking/bending/lifting for field/hospital/client visits; 25% travel/driving/flying.

STANDARD WORK HOURS & AVAILABILITY

Official office hours are Monday – Thursday, 9-5, and Friday, 9-4. This position will primarily work from home and in the field when meeting with clients and facilitating adoptions. The hours will vary for the PRN Adoption Specialist and cannot be guaranteed. Due to the nature of this work, availability on weekends and holidays will be required as needed.

Candidate may be based anywhere in Texas but should have access to a major airport for travel purposes.
