Susan & Daniel

Susan and Daniel have recently been chosen by an expectant parent and are no longer available to be matched with. Other families are still waiting though, and you can VIEW THEM HERE. Hello, and thanks for taking a look at our online profile! As a couple, we love sharing laughter, outdoor adventures, great meals with family and friends, creative pursuits, and travel—and we look forward to sharing these things with the child we embrace through adoption.

If you’re meant to be part of our extended family, please know that we already have a special place in our hearts just for you.

We live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with incredible natural beauty right outside our front door—and so many different arts and cultural experiences to share. We’ve lived all over the country, but we can’t imagine a better place to raise our child. As a couple, we’ve had many amazing adventures together, and now we’re ready for the greatest adventure of all: Parenthood.

Things We Can’t Wait to Do as a Family

Play peek-a-boo | Read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs | Travel to Australia (to see some of Daniel’s cousins) | Visit Sleeping Bear Dunes (where Susan grew up, in Michigan) | Celebrate family reunions | Teach him or her how to take care of a garden | Watch The Lion King | Ride ponies!

PETS

Banjo is a playful young cattle-dog mix who loves snuggling, learning new tricks, hiking, camping, chasing lizards, and playing with her puppy friends at the dog park. She’s curious about kids (especially all the snacks they drop!) and is looking forward to having someone new to play with.

Akira is an older cat who spends much of her time in the ‘cat palace’ Susan has created for her in Susan’s home office. She looks forward to getting to know our child from a safe distance–and then taking naps together.

OUR HOME

Our home is a Santa Fe classic, with real adobe walls, kiva fireplaces, and brick floors, while an eco-friendly passive solar design means lots of windows and skylights.

We love to entertain, and even host occasional house concerts. We have more than an acre of land, with plenty of room to garden and play–and all sorts of hiking and biking trails just outside our door.

Hobbies

We love playing outside and exploring the great outdoors of New Mexico, hiking, camping, cross-country skiing, and paddling.

We also enjoy cooking together, a shared passion that has resulted in many great meals shared with family and friends.

We also enjoy gardening, reading novels, watching movies, and playing music. (Susan plays banjo, and Daniel plays the guitar and ukulele.). Daniel also likes to watch sports, while Susan enjoys crafting, including beadwork, macramé, and embroidery.

Our Parenting Philosophy

We’re people who followed our passions in life, traveled far, and dreamed big–and today, that’s why we have a life we love. We will encourage our child to do the same, and above all, to be who they are and follow their dreams.

Our Extended Family

Daniel has a large extended family, with cousins spread across the country from Washington State t o South Carolina. Daniel’s parents live on the beach in South Carolina, along with his brother and two sisters; we love getting together with them. Family gatherings are full of laughter, family stories, musical jams, televised sports, and afternoon naps.

Susan’s dad and stepmom live “right next door” in Arizona, along with Susan’s brother and his family, who have two young children (2 years old and 6 months old). We see them regularly, and look forward to having “cousins” around the same age as our child.

Susan also has extended family in Michigan, and we look forward to vacationing there with our child in the summer, sharing bonfires on the beach, musical campouts, and lazy days by the lake.

How We Met

We met in a little mountain town in Arizona and immediately connected over a mutual interest in the fight to save a local river. A whirlwind romance followed, and we soon found ourselves moving north together to Portland, Oregon.

During our seven years in Oregon, we chased waterfalls, hugged big trees, grew a garden, and learned to cook salmon and wild mushrooms. Susan taught Daniel to cross-country ski, and Daniel taught Susan to paddleboard. (Of course, it wasn’t all fun and games – Daniel also went to law school, while Susan got her masters degree in creative writing.) We were married on an island in the Columbia Gorge in summer of 2011, surrounded by family and friends.
