When parenting gets overwhelming – because of finances, housing, mental health, or just life – you might find yourself wondering: Can I do a temporary adoption?

The short answer? No. Legally, adoption is permanent. But if you’re looking for short-term help or need extra support, you do have options.

Here’s a look at what support is available in Austin if you need help caring for your children while you get back on your feet.

Reasons You Might Be Considering a “Temporary Adoption”?

Sometimes life can just be a lot. Caring for a child while managing everything else can feel impossible, but you are not failing. You are finding a way forward, possibly through one of these common issues:

  • Housing instability or homelessness
  • Mental health challenges
  • Medical emergencies
  • Domestic violence or an unsafe living situation
  • Job loss or financial crisis
  • School or work commitments
  • Lack of support system
  • Burnout or overwhelm

Asking for help is hard, but it's also brave.
