Major transitions in life are stressful for everyone, but for many adoptees they can trigger deeper and more visceral emotional responses that are often surprising to even themselves. Not only losses, but also “happy” events like buying a home, getting married, and starting a family can also conjure up some of these unwanted responses. This workshop will give adoptees a safe space, free of judgement and expectation, to discuss what they have noticed over the years about their own emotional responses to triggers. Attendees will have a better understanding of why transitions are difficult for adopted persons. They will have the opportunity to share strategies for how they manage transitions in their own lives as well as tips for how to help our loved ones support us better during big life transitions.
