Brian and Jesus, a gay couple in Austin that want to adopt a baby.

Brian & Jesús

Brian & Jesús have recently welcomed a new baby into their home and are no longer available to be matched with. Other families are still waiting though, and you can VIEW THEM HERE. Welcome to our page! We are Brian and Jesús along with our two dogs, Simon and Lola. We are happy you are here taking this moment to get to know us. We hope that it will be a good first step that draws you near to our story, and to what is important to us. We are excited to embark on this journey of adoption, and we send you our very best wishes and deepest respect as you continue your own journey.

Our home consists of two, two-legged, mostly non-hairy adults; and two, four-legged fury ones living under one roof. Beyond our close-knit pack, we are blessed to have a wonderfully supportive family and a remarkable group of friends. At home, we love watching movies together, whipping up tasty and healthy meals, snuggling on the sofa, and decorating the house on every holiday occasion; while outside the house, we live for adventure, whether it is exploring the greenbelt in our own backyard or packing up for a trip abroad to explore exciting foods and make new memories with friends. We work hard and play even harder, acting silly when we can to keep us grounded.

Brian and I are proud to have built our relationship on trust, love, and respect and we CANNOT wait to share this with our little person.

OUR HOME

From scouring endless real estate listing while still living in NYC to demoing the house down ourselves for the remodel, our Austin home is a true labor of love. Ironically we never picked it out together, having seen it on two separate visits to Texas. As a designer, Jesús planned our home with a growing family in mind. We have a dedicated suite for our parents or friends to visit as well as a kid’s room and a playroom. Today, we are proud to have a place that not only provides us the ability to both work from home, but also fosters the basic building blocks for our family. Beyond our four walls, we also count on a wonderful neighborhood built along a greenbelt where we frequently walk our dogs and look forward to the day we can bring our children along for the ride to explore.

PETS

We are blessed to have Simon and Lola in our lives. They bring so much joy and humor to our every day. Brian has owned Simon since he was just a six-month old pup, and is now about to turn 14 years old, while Jesús rescued Lola only a few years ago, after we settled down in Austin. Lola’s vet could not tell her real age from her teeth but we hope that she is with us for many more years to come. Both furry creatures are loving and dependent on each other. Simon is the happy-go-lucky, smart one of the two, whereas Lola is a ham and a firecracker that should have her own reality show.

HOBBIES

We are both very different people with equally different hobbies and interests, but the place where we seem to effortlessly and joyously meet is at the gym. Whether it’s a high-intensity boot camp or a superset weightlifting routine, we both find our happy place together at the gym. We also love to eat and explore new foods, and we don’t care whether we find them at a local taco truck or in a fancy, five-course meal.

Brian has also quickly come to appreciate maintaining the yard and our home’s landscaping, which never even crossed his mind while living in Manhattan. He loves various music genres, going to the movies, and shopping online (he’s a sucker for a sale).

Jesús, on the other hand, is the more bookish one, enjoying a vast range of literature from the classic canon to more modern forms. He also has an ever-growing interest in neurology and languages. Jesús also loves to cook spicy foods while playing salsa music and shaking his behind.

HOW WE MET

We met in NYC in 2015 on Tinder. Our first date was anything but conventional with Brian offering to bail Jesús out after he was stood up by his house movers. What started as a tedious task ended up being the start of a blooming love story. After spending only a few weeks together, we packed our bags and spent almost a month exploring different parts of Colombia and Panama, where we discovered our passion for travel together.

Three years later, we married overlooking the Manhattan skyline with 80 of our closest friends and family. In 2019, we began writing the next chapter of our lives by buying our home in Austin, adopting a second rescue dog, and embarking on the first steps toward adoption.

WHAT ADOPTION MEANS TO US

Adoption means getting a second chance at happiness for both of us. As gay men, we are not given the power to bear our own biological children with the partners we chose, but through adoption, we have the opportunity to claim back that basic right. We chose adoption, specifically open adoption, because we both also believe in the central value it brings to society as it helps build connections between the families we have to those we choose.
