The safest, easiest way to find someone to adopt your baby is to work with adoption agency licensed in your state. Families looking to adopt through an agency have already been through a comprehensive background check, are educated on open adoption, and are ready to welcome a child.
Your adoption specialist can help you think through what matters most to you—such as values, openness, or location. Then she can walk you through profiles of adoptive families who match your preferences.
Adoptive family matching is a personalized process designed around your preferences. The process typically looks like this:
- Think about what you’re hoping for in an adoptive family.
- Review profiles of waiting adoptive families.
- Talk with one or more adoptive families to ask questions and see if you feel a connection.
- Make it official.

As a Texas adoption agency, most of Adoption Advocates’ waiting families are here in Texas. Many of them live in the Austin area. However, we work with adoptive parents from all across the country. We even occasionally work with American families living overseas!
You can look at as many adoption profiles as you need to. What’s important is that you find an adoptive family you feel a connection to.
If you do not find a match through our approved adoptive families, we will look outside the agency for the right one. Depending on your due date, you can also choose to pause the matching process. We are always approving new families, so we’ll be able to offer more choices.
You are not locked into anything until you sign relinquishment documents, which cannot happen until at least 48 hours after your baby is here. That means you can decide to parent, even if you’ve chosen an adoptive family.
There is also no deadline for choosing an adoptive family. If you are still exploring parenting or unsure about adoption, we’ll hold off on the matching process. This gives you more time and space to weigh your options without pressure.
Yes! Many women talk with or meet adoptive families as part of the matching process.
Once you are matched, you can start building a relationship with the adoptive parents. This could be texting, talking on the phone or getting together in-person. Your comfort level always comes first, and your adoption specialist can help set boundaries that feel right to you.
Every situation is different. Some women connect with adoptive parents quickly, while others take more time. There is no deadline unless you want one.
