Blake & Micah

Blake and Micah have been chosen by an expectant parent and are no longer available to be matched with. Other families are still waiting though, and you can VIEW THEM HERE. To learn about additional families or to speak with an adoption specialist, please call Adoption Advocates at (512) 477-1122.

Hello! We’re happy you’re here. We’re Blake and Micah (plus our two pups Brody and Maggie). As we round out a decade of being together, we’re both excited to expand our family.

For the longest time, we were always content being the cool “guncles” (gay uncles), but as we’ve watched our family members and friends become parents, we realized how much a child would enrich our family.  Adoption holds a special place in both of our hearts. Blake’s younger brother and sister were both adopted and so were his sister’s three kids. Our family is so much better with them in it; their joy and love brought into our lives are immeasurable. We know the same love and joy will be brought into our family with whatever child is placed with us.

We might not know exactly what our family’s future holds, but we do know that we, along with the birth parents, are going to surround this child with so much love.

We’ve had some amazing memories as well as trials and tribulations over the last decade, and we’re ready to take our next challenge and reward of parenthood. We’re excited to be expanding our family of four (can’t forget our pups).

Our Pets

Meet Maggie and Brody. They’ve been part of our family since the beginning of our relationship and they are some of our best friends.

Maggie’s the yellow Lab, and her best friend is a stuffed Snuffleupagus, but she’s pretty excited to add someone new to the fam! She loves dinnertime, snuggles, and long walks by the grass.

Brody is the Border Collie. He still acts like a puppy even though he’s 12 years old. He’s excited for someone in the house that has as much energy as he does! His favorite pastime is taking squeakers out of toys, anything outdoors, and to showing off all his fun tricks.

Our Home

As we plan to expand our family, we want to have a place with room to play and grow. We just bought a three-bedroom house in Austin with a backyard and a park nearby and lots of room for memories.

Traveling

Traveling is our love language. We both knew we were meant to be after our first big trip together.

Being in different cities, states, and countries has been one of the best learning experiences for both of us. To see different cultures and the world from someone else’s point of view has opened our minds so much. We hope we can explore the world with our future child so they can be instilled with the lessons we’ve been so lucky to experience.

Our Parenting Philosophy

It’s not easy to put our philosophy on parenting into words, but if we had to simplify it, it could be summarized in one word: love.

We want our child to grow up in a loving home, with parents who care deeply about them and their happiness. We also want them to learn how to love themselves and others, as well as how to be kind and respectful and be able to communicate their feelings.

We believe there should be an open line of communication between parents and children. We never want our child to feel like they cannot share something with us, and we hope that our show of support will reinforce that. We’ll be their biggest cheerleader and support them through the highs and the lows.

Our Family Traditions

Both of us grew up with a lot of family traditions, so we’ve carried a lot of them into our relationship. We can’t wait to start our own traditions and see our child experience them. Some of them are goofy, but we love an excuse to celebrate with our loved ones, whether it’s birthdays or trips.

Some of our favorites are:

  • A yearly trip to the Texas State Fair
  • Couples Halloween costumes (soon to be family!)
  • Bi-annual beach trip to Florida with immediate and extended family — the last one we had over forty people ranging in age from toddlers to 90 years old
  • Annual Great American Picnic where we celebrate our friends birthday and dress up in the most silly American garb we can find
