Common Questions

Can I Choose Adoption If…?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does it cost to place a baby for adoption?2024-04-05T12:24:35-05:00

No. Adoption Advocates offers all services for expectant parents, including counseling and legal services, free of cost.

As a licensed adoption agency in Texas, we may be able to provide financial assistance for pregnancy-related expenses while you make an adoption plan. Your adoption specialist can discuss your situation with you to see how much assistance you may be eligible for.

Can I place my child for adoption if I’ve already delivered or am parenting?2024-04-05T12:24:49-05:00

Adoption Advocates places newborns and children up to three years of age. If you are considering placing an infant you’ve just delivered, or a child up to 3 years old that you are currently parenting, we will be able to help.

The adoption process moves more quickly when the baby has already been born, but you will still have all the same rights and choices as expectant parents. When you reach out to Adoption Advocates, we’ll first want to find out a little more about your situation. If you are still in the hospital, an adoption specialist will plan to visit you to explain the process in more detail. If you’re readym she’ll also provide adoptive family profiles.

If you are already parenting at home, your adoption specialist will first make sure that you and the baby or child are in a safe place and having your basic needs met. Once that has been established, you’ll set up a time to meet, discuss the process and begin making an adoption plan.

Your adoption specialist will also help you explore options that may allow you to continue parenting your child, if that’s what you want. Adoption is a permanent decision, and one that should not be made because of a temporary situation or hardship. No matter where in Texas you live, there are resources that can help you find housing, food, employment and more. You can search for nonprofits providing free or low cost by zip code at FindHelp.org.

What if I’m not sure about adoption yet?2024-04-05T12:40:53-05:00

It’s OK not to be sure about adoption right away. This is a really important decision! Take as much time as you need. Your adoption specialist will discuss all of your options with you — without pressure or judgment. Our goal is to provide support and answers, so that you can make an informed decision.

After speaking to an adoption specialist, you may decide that adoption is not right for you. That’s OK too. If you decide to parent, Adoption Advocates can direct you to resources to provide assistance during your pregnancy and your child’s early years.

What help can Adoption Advocates provide?2024-04-05T12:26:30-05:00

  • Exploring your options
  • Learning about the pros and cons of adoption
  • Paying for rent, groceries, maternity clothing and other pregnancy-related expenses
  • Applying for Pregnancy Medicaid
  • Choosing an adoptive family

Can I place my baby for adoption without the father’s consent?2024-04-25T11:41:01-05:00
Your baby’s biological father also has rights to the child, and those rights will need to be legally terminated. Adoption Advocates can handle all communications with the biological father, so you don’t have to. In some cases, we may not need to contact him at all. Reach out to us to discuss your specific situation so we can help you understand how much involvement, if any, he may need to have in the process.
Some biological fathers like to be involved in the adoption process. Adoption Advocates will also provide him with free counseling and support to help him through this difficult time.
If you are unsure who the baby’s father is, don’t worry. We have had other clients in this situation, and we were still able to help them. We’ll be able to help you, too.

Taking care of yourself while pregnant can feel challenging, especially if you have limited finances or don’t have insurance. As a Texas resident, you may qualify for Pregnancy Medicaid that can pay for pregnancy-related costs, like prenatal checkups and your baby’s birth. In Corpus Christi, you’ll have access to other resources as well, from free pregnancy tests to help apply for food benefits.

IN OUR FAMILIES’ WORDS

The most impressive thing about the organization was the compassionate and respectful way they treated the birth families. We especially loved the care and time they took with our son’s birth mother. The adoption agency protected both the birth family and us every step of the way.
